notes

Rheum × hybridum Timperley Early is simply the best variety for forcing, to produce the most tender stalks of fragrant, champagne-pink rhubarb. Left unforced, the edible leaf stalks ripen to a glorious scarlet. A recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence in the garden.

Insights

A versatile plant, the stalks are tartly sweet and can be stewed or baked into pies and crumbles, or combined with ginger for jam or wine. Native to China, rhubarb was originally grown for its medicinal value.
