notes

The pointed green foliage of this compact variety, Choisya x dewitteana 'Greenfingers', explains the name. This luscious evergreen shrub produces a mass of starry, pink-tinted white flowers in late spring and early summer, with a second flush in autumn. These pretty flowers resemble those of citrus and in common with them are wonderfully scented.

INSIGHTS

Obvious from its common name - Mexican Orange Blossom- this vibrant shrub is indigenous to the southern areas of North America, spreading across and through the whole of Mexico. It was named after Jacques Denis Choisy, a notable 19th-century Swiss botanist. This compact variety is ideal for smaller or courtyard gardens.

DETAILS

Flowers: The waxy, white flowers appear in April to May and then again in August to September (if you have deadheaded), attracting native pollinators, particularly bees.

PLANTING
  • Well drained soil
  • South, east, west facing
  • Full sun
  • Sheltered
CARE

Position in a sunny, protected position, this evergreen is intolerant of frost and cold wind. Requires little pruning but if a gentle trim is needed to shape, do so in late spring after flowering (this encourages autumn blooms) and follow with a mulch.
