notes

Acanthus spinosus is a spectacular, fast-growing herbaceous perennial that produces tall spikes of two-tone purple-hooded white flowers throughout the summer, which are beloved by bees. A plant with a rich, long heritage, acanthus leaves inspired the decorative capitals of Corinthian columns in classical architecture.

Insights

Semi-evergreen, the enormous glossy leaves can grow up to a metre long and form impressive clumps. It spreads by means of an underground rhizome. Allow it plenty of room to make its statement as a specimen plant. The blooms are also excellent for flower arrangements, both fresh and dried.
