Native to Europe and the Caucasus, the name Astrantia comes from the Greek word for star - astra - referring to the tiny star-like flowers. Wonderful for a cutting garden, the long-lasting flowers can also be dried but always leave some in situ since they are marvellous for native pollinators.
The long-lasting flowers appear in May and will continue for several months.
- Well drained soil
- South, west facing
- Full sun
- Minimum maintenance is required
- Cut the flowers once spent to encourage leaf growth; the foliage will die down in the autumn.
