Features

notes
This unusual perennial has attractive, distinctive foliage - its uncomplicated, fresh-looking leaves growing on fine stems in tall mounds. On the end of the upright stalks in early summer appear pea-like flowers in the most marvellous dark indigo blue. Long lasting and beautiful, these flowers gratifyingly mature into decorative seed pods in autumn.
Insights

Visually this plant has much in common with the Indigo plant, Indigofera tinctoria, whose leaves were used to create the characteristic blue dye. The name is rather charmingly derived from the Greek word bapto, meaning to dye or dip (hence baptism).
