Features

notes

This deciduous Chaenomeles x superba Pink Lady is a spreading shrub, with spiny branches bearing glossy, ovate leaves. In the late winter (and earlier than other varieties), it produces pretty, pink, cup shaped flowers on leafless stems, which look particularly striking when trained up a wall or fence. The aromatic, green-yellow fruit that follows in autumn is traditionally used to make preserves and jellies (see note below).

INSIGHTS

The flowering stems of Pink Lady make dramatic, indoor flower arrangements characteristic of ikebana (Japanese flower arrangements). The flowers attract pollinating insects at a crucially early point in the season. It is a recipient of RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.
