Features

notes
Cotinus Lilla is a dwarf version of this famously attractive shrub - the smoke bush - with large, rounded, rich purple leaves and feathery, smoke-like deep pink plumes in summer. The oval leaves turn a glorious, translucent orange-purple in autumn.
Insights

Ideal for a smaller garden or cottage garden, C. Lilla can alternatively be planted near the front of a larger border. The leaves look particularly beautiful if positioned to allow the sunlight to shine through them and the foliage and plumes are excellent for flower arrangements in summer and autumn.

Care
  • Cotinus coggygria are easy shrubs to look after.
  • Although they need no pruning, if you want to encourage bushy new growth, cut the stems back hard in early spring.
  • Add a generous helping of well-rotted manure or leaf mould after pruning- the shrub will benefit from a feed even if you are not pruning.
