notes

Paul Lucien Maze’s French Interior with Pansies in a Blue and White Bowl is a serene oil on canvas. The composition features a delicate arrangement of pansies in a patterned ceramic bowl, set against a softly lit interior. The interplay of light and shadow, along with the harmonious palette, creates a tranquil atmosphere. This piece would suit a quiet reading nook, a refined sitting room, or any space that appreciates understated elegance.

Artist

Paul Lucien Maze (1887–1979) was an Anglo-French painter often referred to as “The last of the Post Impressionists.” Born in Le Havre, France, Maze was exposed to Impressionism early on through his father's connections with artists like Monet and Pissarro. During World War I, he served with the British Army and became a close friend and painting mentor to Winston Churchill. Maze became a British citizen in 1920 and was appointed the official painter for Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953. His works are held in major collections, including the Tate and the Fitzwilliam Museum.
