Ilex aquifolium JC van Tol, 3L
This native holly cultivar is notable for two things- it is almost spineless, and because it is self-fertile you do not need a male variety to produce berries. Leaves are glossy and dark green, with dark purple stems carrying a profusion of bright red berries during winter. It is a recipient of RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.

As an evergreen specimen tree, this is a wonderful addition to any garden. In late spring, inconspicuous white flowers attract bees and other pollinators, with birds much appreciative of the berries during the colder months. A strong grower, it copes with most conditions and with its dense nature, is great for hedging, blocking noise and wind, perfect for nesting birds!
