notes

'Figures in the Shade of Trees' by Mark William Fisher is a lyrical oil on canvas piece, capturing a dappled woodland glade in soft, impressionistic style. Sunlight glimmers through tall trees, casting shadows across the grass where finely dressed figures gather in quiet leisure. Fisher's confident handling of light and movement brings a freshness to this pastoral scene, making the piece well suited to traditional and calm interior spaces such as hallways and country studies.

Artist

Mark William Fisher (1841–1923) was an American-born painter who became a leading figure in British landscape art. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he studied in Paris under Gleyre and was influenced by the Barbizon school. Fisher settled in England in 1872, where his pastoral scenes and deft handling of natural light gained wide acclaim. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy, becoming a Royal Academician in 1919, and his work is held in major UK collections including the Tate.
