notes

George Weissbort’s Still Life of Tulips and Daffodils, oil on board, presents a gentle interplay of light and form, capturing the fleeting grace of spring blooms. The creamy whites of the daffodils contrast softly with the coral tulips, all nestled in a patterned vase. Set against a textured, tapestry-like backdrop, the scene evokes quiet domestic charm. This piece would lend grace to bedrooms, hallways, or reflective studio spaces.

Artist

George Weissbort (1928–2013) was a Belgian-born British painter celebrated for his devotion to classical technique and observational still life. Born in Brussels, he moved to London with his family in 1933. During World War II, he was evacuated to Oxford, where a visit to the Ashmolean Museum and an encounter with painter Arthur Segal sparked his lifelong passion for drawing and painting. He studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London under Bernard Meninsky, Ruskin Spear, and Rodrigo Moynihan. His work includes delicate still lifes, landscapes, and portraits, and he exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. His paintings are held in UK public collections, including the Ben Uri Collection and Guy's & St Thomas' Foundation.
