Thyme is an essential component of any kitchen garden as it has a wide range of culinary uses, the strong flavour of the leaves ideal for seasoning savoury dishes. This bushy Lemon Variegated variety has a citrus scent and flavour and is wonderful planted somewhere that the fragrance is released when brushed past. The golden variegated foliage bears dainty pink flowers, which prove irresistible to bees.

Grown in peat free compost in a biodegradable pot made from waste coir and natural latex. Remove plant from pot or cut/tear away some of the coir if the plant is well rooted and hard to remove.

  • Flowers: May - July
  • Moist, well-drained soil
  • South, West or East aspect
  • Full sun
  • Pop the discarded coir pot in the green bin, leave out for birds to use for nesting, use as mulch or add to compost heap
  • The herb will die back in the autumn but will reappear with new growth in spring
  • Keep plant well trimmed to allow the new growth (with best flavour) to come through
  • Coir pots are supplied by one specific village producer in Sri Lanka. They have built a school, old people's home and extension to the local medical centre over the years from the proceeds of coir pot production
