Features
This long flowering, deciduous climber, Clematis HF Young is notable for its large, star shaped blooms, which open in a rich mauvey blue, then pale to a lighter ‘Wedgwood Blue’, in contrast to the creamy yellow stamens.
An older variety, believed to have been raised from a seedling in 1956, named for Horace Young, a former manager of the Scartho nursery, a branch of Walter Pennell's Lincolnshire nursery, host of a wonderfully productive clematis breeding program. Clematis need their roots to be cool and their heads in the sun, so plant with roots shaded by other plants. Moreover, they will add height to the garden or provide colour to a plain background, such as a fence or wall.
