Launched in 2023, Clematis montana Silver Star has been bred to grow quickly with a free flowering habit. Its flowers are small, single and fragrant, and as befits its name, they are white with a silvery sheen. Train up a trellis or wall or leave to scramble through a tree for a stunning display in spring.

The spring flowering clematis have a very fine root system so do not fare well in waterlogged ground, in fact, they thrive in poor soil conditions, if free draining.

Flowers: May - June

  • Moist, well-drained soil
  • All aspects
  • Full sun or partial sunlight
  • As Clematis like cool roots, try to position so that the roots will be shaded from the sun by another plant. Bear in mind the space they will need to climb and provide a suitable structure - trellis, wall, fence or other plant - to climb through
  • Can be a skin irritant and harmful to pets if ingested
  • Group 1 pruning

Mild scent
