notes

Also known as the Rice Paper Plant, Tetrapanax papyrifer 'Rex' is a large, shrub which grows quickly, its stems producing really large, lobed leaves (up to a metre wide), which are covered in a fine, brown down when young. In autumn, creamy white pompoms of flowers are produced, attracting bees and other pollinators, followed by black fruit.

Insights

Native to Taiwan and other parts of Asia, where it grows as a tree, this plant creates a striking jungle-like effect, adding bold architectural interest to the garden along with a welcome canopy of shade.
