Features

notes

The long-blooming flowers of Helenium Mardi Gras provide a welcome injection of colour as summer progresses. Each daisy-like flower head unfurls to reveal an orange-yellow sunburst of petals, against a deep brown central cone. Not as tall as other varieties, it is ideal for the front of the border in the late summer garden.

Insights

It is said that Heleniums are named after Helen of Troy; if so, they valiantly uphold her reputation for beauty. While so familiar to English herbaceous borders, these sophisticated, grown up ‘daisies’ originated in North American meadowland and are extremely hardy as a result.
