- Sow seeds thinly in fine, moist seed compost about 1cm deep. Indoor sow February–April and transplant out after frost risk; alternatively sow direct outdoors April–May once conditions are suitable. Thin or space seedlings to about 20–30 cm (8–12ni) apart as they grow.
Rudbeckias are generally low‑maintenance. Keep soil evenly moist during establishment and water during prolonged dry spells. Deadhead faded blooms to encourage continued flowering throughout summer and into early autumn. They are hardy in most conditions and will often reseed for continued garden interest.
