Features

notes

Crocus ‘Grand Maître’ is a large-flowering Dutch crocus with glowing lavender‑blue cup-shaped blooms featuring bright golden stamens. A standout early spring addition, it naturalises beautifully in lawns, rockeries, and containers, offering a carpet of ethereal colour as winter recedes.

Insights

A Giant Dutch Crocus (Crocus vernus group): robust and prolific, producing 2–3 blossoms per corm on sturdy stems—ideal for dramatic, low-maintenance swathes of spring colour.

Details

Flowering Time: February–March

Planting
  • Soil: Prefers moist but well‑drained soil
  • Aspect: Thrives in full sun to partial shade
  • Planting Time & Depth: Plant in autumn (September–December) at 7–10 cm deep, spacing 5–8 cm apart for optimal naturalising effect
Care
  • Bulbs are toxic to pets or humans if ingested
  • Corms are vulnerable to mice and squirrels
  • If planted in lawns, do not mow for six weeks after they have flowered to allow the foliage to provide energy for the corms (for next year’s flowers)
