Agapanthus Fireworks has justly won third place in the prestigious Best Plants competition at The Chelsea Flower Show 2019.
Agapanthus – African Lilies – are always visually dramatic and evoke distant, hotter climes. Even amongst the bright blooms of high summer, A. Fireworks lives up to its name and produces a dazzling bi-colour display. Raised above its elegantly strap-shaped, mid-green leaves, each flower explodes with colour. The large, round flower heads comprise a mass of petals in the form of refined trumpets, which graduate startlingly from deep blue in the centre to bright white at the end.
A. Fireworks make a dramatic display in containers and correctly positioned in full sun creates a focal point on a terrace or in a courtyard. Each separate flower head will bloom for a long time, during a flowering season that lasts from July to September. The heads can be cut for an elegant summer arrangement or dried in the autumn for their beautiful structure.
