notes

The compact climber, Clematis ‘Rosemoor’ ('Evipo002'PBR) is much admired for its deep, purple red flowers with contrasting yellow stamens, which repeat flower from late spring to early autumn. The colour of the large blooms does not fade, making this an ideal clematis for growing in a container or climbing through a shrub.

Insights

It was introduced as part of the RHS Bicentenary Plant Collection. Clematis have their roots in the Far East. The first example, C. Viticella, arrived in Europe in the mid-16th century. Two centuries later, the Victorians bred numerous varieties and their popularity continues. The native climber is C. Vitalba, a familiar sight in autumn hedgerows, the fluffy seed heads explaining the traditional name: Old Man’s Beard.
