notes

One of the largest hostas, Hosta ‘Sum and Substance, bears a mound of yellow green leaves, up to 50cm in length. It has also been reported as less susceptible to slugs and snails than other hostas, due to its long stems and tough leaves. Bell shaped pale mauve flowers are held on tall stems in late summer, adding to its appeal. Supplied in biodegradable pot made from waste coir and natural latex.

Insights

The clump forming plantain lily looks great in a border but will also perform well as a specimen in a container. Hostas are woodland plants and, as such, thrive in a shady spot away from direct sun, sheltered away from cold winds, with soil that does not dry out. Awarded American Hosta Growers 2004 ‘Hosta of the Year’ and is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.
