- Sow: April – July (direct outdoors)
- Harvest: June – November
- Soil: Light, fertile, well‑drained soil
- Aspect: Full sun
- Sowing Method: Sow very thinly directly into drills about 2 cm (¾″) deep, with rows spaced approx. 30 cm (12″) apart.
Keep the soil surface gently moist until germination, which usually takes 10–20 days in warm conditions. Thin seedlings to about 5–7 cm (2–3″) apart once established — do this in the evening to minimise carrot root fly attraction. Pull alternate roots as they grow (‘thin as you eat’) to manage spacing without waste. Avoid transplanting, as carrots dislike root disturbance.
