Details
  • Sow: March – May
  • Harvest: September – October
Planting
  • Soil: Firm, fertile and well‑drained
  • Aspect: Full sun to part shade

Sowing:

  • Early sowings under cover in trays or modules at around 16 °C
  • Later sowings direct outdoors in a well‑prepared seedbed

Spacing: Thin transplants or seedlings to about 45–60 cm (18–24″) apart once large enough to handle. Harden off seedlings before planting out.

Care

Start seeds early under cover to get a head start on the season. Whether sown in trays or directly outdoors, cool‑season brassicas like a firm site with steady moisture and good fertility. Space generously to allow the heads to form fully, and harvest when curds are firm and tightly packed just before flowering.
