- Sow: March – May or July – October (direct outdoors)
- Harvest: May – June or August – December (depending on sowing date)
- Soil: Moist, fertile, well‑drained soil
- Aspect: Full sun to light shade
- Sow seeds thinly in shallow drills approx. 2 cm deep, with rows about 30 cm (12″) apart.
- Once seedlings have several true leaves, thin to around 15 cm (6″) between plants to encourage strong leaf production.
- Later sowings benefit from cloche or fleece to extend the season or protect from frost.
Keep the soil consistently moist to avoid premature bolting, especially in dry weather. Spinach leaves may be picked as baby leaves or left to mature; harvesting regularly encourages continued growth.
