notes

Prunus incisa Koja-no-mai is a cherry that flowers early with delightful single flowers that open before the leaves in early spring, the white or palest pink petals becoming deeper in tone in the centre. This plant is adored in Japan for its blossom. Slow growing, P. Kojo-no-mai works well in small gardens. A recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence in the garden.

Insights

A compact, bushy, deciduous shrub with zig-zag branches bearing serrated, lance-shaped leaves, that turn a glorious bronze as the year goes on. Because it hails from Mount Fuji, it is little surprise it thrives even in poor conditions.
