Stipa gigantea
Stipa gigantea is a large and graceful ornamental grass with tall, fluffy, purple green flower plumes in summer, which fade to pale gold. The seed heads that develop look like huge oats, and wave and rattle beautifully in the slightest breeze. These, with the evergreen foliage, provide autumn and winter interest.

This magnificent plant is perfect for introducing movement. It makes a real statement as a specimen, or plant in a sunny mixed perennial border against a darker background where the plumes can be seen above other plants. It pairs particularly well with the bright colours of heleniums, alliums or salvias.
