notes

Tulipa ‘Lizzy’ is a petite botanical tulip, opening into six-pointed star blooms in vibrant scarlet-red with striking black basal cups, occasionally edged with yellow-orange. Perfect for rockeries, containers, border fronts, or naturalising under trees.

Insights

A species (Orphanidea) tulip: compact and perennial, with true wild charm. It naturalises over time and performs reliably in well-drained, sunlit spots.

Details

Flowering Time: April–May (mid-spring)

Planting
  • Soil: Rich, well-drained loam
  • Aspect: Full sun to partial shade
  • Planting Time & Depth: Plant in autumn (Sept–Nov), about 10–15 cm deep and 10 cm apart; bulbs may naturalise if undisturbed
Care
  • Protect from excessive wet and strong winds
  • Bulbs are toxic to pets or humans if ingested and may cause skin allergy
  • Deadhead as flowers fade but allow leaves to die back naturally
