The witch hazel, Hamamelis x intermedia Ruby Glow, is an upright, deciduous shrub, notable for its softly fragrant flowers in winter. Foliage starts as green, before darkening and turning a fiery orange and red before falling. Spider-like flowers then appear at the end of the bare branches, tinted with coppery red, adding interest when so little else is flowering in the garden.
