Features

notes

This compact, deciduous Chaenomeles speciosa Nivalis, is a spreading shrub, with spiny branches bearing glossy, ovate leaves. In the late winter to early spring, it produces pretty five-petalled flowers in a brilliant white. The aromatic, green-yellow fruit that follows in late summer is traditionally used to make preserves and jellies.

Insights

C. Nivalis is ideal for a small garden and the flowering stems make dramatic, indoor flower arrangements characteristic of ikebana (Japanese flower arrangements). The flowers attract pollinating insects at a crucially early point.
