Insights
This quintessential cottage garden flower hails from Banat (hence Bannaticus), in Southwest Romania. The name Echinops derives from the Greek word for hedgehog (also used for Echinacea) for the same charmingly prickly reason. Wonderful for arrangements and even better for the bees!
Details
From July to August the wonderful thistle-like flowers appear. They can be left to create lovely silhouettes in the frosty winter garden or cut for flower arrangements or drying.

Care
The foliage will die down in the autumn. Cut any surviving stalks as the leaves reappear in spring.
