Cynara Cardunculus, also known as a cardoon, is a tall, sun loving perennial that produces handsome silvery grey foliage and statuesque stems bearing large, purple, thistle-like flowers in high summer. For best results, this plant needs lots of space, full sun and shelter from cold winds. 
Insights

The flowers are a real magnet for bees and other pollinators and are wonderful cut for a flower arrangement or alternatively, can be left on the plant to add some architectural interest in the winter garden. It is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.
